Arizona State Racquetball Championship

I finally got to participate in the Arizona State Racquetball Championships. The past few years I was either out of town or didn’t have any vacation time to drive up to Phoenix. The weeks leading up to the tournament there were a lot of shit talkers in my life; criticizing me for entering the A and B divisions. Many people thought I was not being true to myself, many thought I would have been better by entering the C division. Well I tend to play to my competitions skill level. So if the person is worse than me, I play worse. If they are better, than I play as best I can. So my thinking was I will get more out of the tournament by playing people better than me. I was very happy with my decision to play in the harder division.

Friday
I had both of my first rounds that night, one right after the other. My first match was the A singles match. I lost 15-2 and 15-8. I was happier the second match, I made some conscientious strategic changes that I caused me to score a few more points. In the end, I didn’t execute the shots as good as I could have. I’m in pretty good shape, so I don’t lose matches because of conditioning, I just hit some bad shots sometimes.

Next was my B division match. My opponent was older and more out of shape than my first opponent. This means one of two things, either he is what I just said or he’s so good that he doesn’t have to work that hard and thus doesn’t lose in weight. Well it was the latter because I lost 15-2 and 15-4. I was very excited for this tournament, not over confident, but the whole time my heart was racing at about 120 bpm. All of my shots were high and easy kill shot for my opponents. So at 1030 that night I was out of the tournament. SSSSSssssssssssssssssaaaaaaaaaaaaaddddddddddddTiiiiiiiiimmmmmmeeeessssssss‼‼

I was staying with Sara and Joe that weekend; they were excellent hosts as always. Friday night we had some subway and when I got home we watched some Harry Potter. Don’t laugh; Harry Potter is always fun to watch. Saturday morning I got up and went to REI. REI is a sports store that takes back everything as long as you have your receipt. No matter the reason no matter who’s at fault. I tore my jacket, it was my fault, and they took it about no questions asked and gave me full credit. So then I went to the Burlington Coat Factory outlet and got a new jacket that ended up costing less but was worth more than my original jacket. Double Awesome.

Then I got some Sbarro’s. If you don’t remember my love for Sbarro’s, it’s pretty much always Sbarro’s time. I was in south Phoenix which was the Mexican and Indian area of time, lots of cholos and whatever the slang word for Indian thugs is. There was some crappy Mexican chick who sounded dumber than an 8 year old and she was very nasally, I felt like fixing it by putting my plastic fork in her nose.

Afterwards the three of us played some Wii Fit. Its so awesome and if any of you have a wii, but no fit, you are missing out. All of the balance games are loads of fun. After that we decided to go get some sushi. We had a crap load of sushi and drank quite a few Kirin’s. We stopped at a store, picked up some more beer and proceeded to watch Harry Potter 4 drunk and discussing how good it would be to motor boat Hermione.

Sunday I just went home and chilled with my cousins in Tucson for awhile.
Apart from the crappy racquetball play, all in all it was a good weekend.
